Paris is one of the world’s most famous destinations for tourists, with more than 30 million visiting the capital of France each year.
Whilst it may feel like world-renowned venues such as the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre are constantly overcrowded with travellers, the travel blog Hand Luggage Only has offered a number of fantastic attractions the city has to offer that few tourists know about.
First, the site suggested that visitors to Paris looking for a bit of fun should take a ride on the Dodo Manèrge, said to be one of the most unusual fairground rides in the world.
Built in 1992 to highlight wildlife preservation, the Dodo Manèrge is a merry-go-round that features endangered or extinct animals.
Fittingly, possibly the world’s only attraction that lets visitors take a ride on a dodo is located very near the Natural History Museum, which features more than 7,000 specimens.
Another fun activity in Paris that is unlikely to be overcrowded with tourists is the Montmartre Vineyard, a staple of the city for more than 800 years.
It is easy to think that visitors would have to travel miles out of the city to experience rural life in France, however, this vineyard is located right in the middle of Paris and is still used to produce local wines.
As a result, tourists can also take a trip to the nearby Le Maison Rose, a charming pink café, where they can sample the goods or go for a wine-tasting session.
On a slightly less sweet note, Hand Luggage Only also suggested that one of the more underground sites Paris has to offer is its sewer system, which travellers can not only visit but go on a tour through.
Whilst it may not sound appealing, the sewers of Paris have a significant history, with Emperor Napoleon III ordering them to be constructed to raise living conditions following a series of riots in the 1800s.
Today, the network has its own museum that offers walks or wagon rides through the complex system of tunnels.
Finally, the travel blog noted that visitors wanting to see another interesting landmark in the nearby area that surrounds the Eiffel Tower should check out the Flame of Liberty.
The name sounds more American than Parisian because it was a gift to the city by New York in return for the Statue of Liberty.
The flame may not be as big as the famous statue, however, many visitors put flowers at its base and take a photo of it with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
