With soaring house prices and the age of the average first-time buyer well over 30, buying a house for less than £1 may sound impossible.
But a house that went up for sale for sale in Pontiac, Michigan, the US last year did just just that.
Dubbed the ‘world’s cheapest home’, it is safe to say this home was a doer-upper.
The detached property consists of two bedrooms, spanning 742 square-feet in total. The house has one bathroom, but has missing walls while overgrown shrubbery surrounds the building.
The home was last listed in February 2023 for $4,092 (£3,212), according to its price history. Now vacant for several years, the property needs some serious TLC.
The photos show paint peeling from walls, missing drywall in every room, a hole in the floor and overgrown bushes.
The listing agent for Good Company Realty, Christopher Hubel, told USA Today Money that he expects the house to realistically sell for around $45,000 (£35,000) to $50,000 (£39,000), which is what he estimates the market value to be.
Mr Hubel has used distinctive marketing tactics to brighten up the prospects of the house, offering a playful perspective on its condition.
“The roof might have seen better days, but hey, it’s not leaking yet — it’s just keeping you on your toes, providing an unexpected shower of excitement when you least expect it,” he wrote.
“Who needs a traditional open-concept layout when you can have an open floor plan thanks to an authentic, unfiltered glimpse into the crawl space? » the listing says.
