As it is always wise to assess the safety of your tourist location, especially if you’re travelling alone, security experts at ADT conducted a study to determine the most popular UK holiday destinations with the highest crime rates.
The following locations make for the most dangerous staycations in the country, according to the study:
North Lincolnshire
With 5,743 crimes per 10,000 people, North Lincolnshire tops the list as the most dangerous holiday destination in the country.
Despite the safety concern, the borough is a popular holiday destination, especially during the summer months, known for its traditional street markets, neighbourhood cafes, and independent stores. For those looking to spend some quiet time outdoors, its sprawling golf courses and pegs for fishing are ideal for a peaceful afternoon, followed by a drink at the local pub.
Derbyshire
Derbyshire comes in second, with a crime rate of 3,205 per 10,000 people.
However, its natural and scenic prowess cannot be overlooked, with its rugged hillside, windswept moors, and verdant farmlands. The county, which is dotted with picturesque hamlets, villages and towns, is a lovely recharge spot, especially for hikers.
Somerset
With a crime rate of 2,453 per 10,000 people, Somerset came in third as the most dangerous holiday destination in the UK.
Given its historical and natural scenery, marked by ancient ruins, castles, and rolling meadows, the tourism for this popular county will not be marred by safety concerns anytime soon.
Other dangerous UK destinations include Bedfordshire, Leicestershire and Dorset, while the safest spots to visit this year are North Worcestershire and South Oxfordshire.
