Sarah Ferguson has made a five-word pledge for her « kind » ex-husband Prince Andrew in a new interview for The Sunday Times.
Sarah’s comments were made prior to the latest claims that Andrew « invited » a Chinese spy into three of the royal palaces – including Buckingham Palace on two occasions.
The 65-year-old, who was married to the Duke of York between 1986 and 1996, remains close to Andrew to this day.
The divorced pair are known to have kept a close bond, with Sarah also revealing to the newspaper that their wedding day was the « best day of my life ». Sarah and Andrew tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in July 1986.
In a pledge to Andrew, Sarah revealed that she would always stand by him, saying, « I won’t let him down ».
Sarah told the publication: « I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind.
« Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today. I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three Cs — communication, compromise, compassion. »
Prince Andrew stepped back from public duties after his car crash interview with Emily Maitlis in November 2019, focused on his relationship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Sarah and Andrew welcomed their first daughter, Princess Beatrice, in August 1988. Their second daughter, Princess Eugenie, arrived just shy of two years later in March 1990.
As well as two children, Andrew and Sarah are also proud grandparents to four children – including Beatrice’s stepson, eight-year-old Wolfie.
The former couple became grandparents in February 2021 when Eugenie welcomed her first son August with her husband Jack Brooksbank. The pair later welcomed their second son Ernest in May 2023.
After tying the knot with Edoardo Mapelli-Mozzi in 2020, Beatrice gave birth to their daughter Sienna in September 2021.
Earlier this year, Buckingham Palace shared the news that Beatrice is pregnant with her and Edoardo’s second child. Their child is due next spring. Sarah took to her social media following Beatrice’s exciting news, stating that being a grandmother « fills my heart with so much happiness and gratitude ».
