Princess Kate cuts a sombre figure in elegant black outfit as she joins royals at Cenotaph | Royal | News

The Princess of Wales put on a solemn display as she attended the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph along with senior members of the Royal Family. The 42-year-old appeared to be deeply moved during today’s National Service of Remembrance on Whitehall.

King Charles, who is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, led the nation to pay their respect and commemorations. Kate was spotted on the balcony of the Foreign Office alongside Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Kate stepped out of Kensington Palace this morning in an elegant black coat dress by Catherine Walker. She has worn outfits from the designer on many occasions over the years.

If you are after a similar look, then Joe Browns Tuxedo dress is for you, and costs £85 – you can buy it here if you click now.

She also wore a trio of poppies to honour war heroes. The choice of wearing a cluster of three poppies may be linked to the fact her great-grandmother had three brothers who were killed in action during the First World War. Kensington Palace never confirmed this theory, however.

The Princess accessorised with stunning jewellery and wore the Queen’s Dragoon Guard brooch, in a nod to her role as Colonel in Chief. Meanwhile, she also wore Bahrain Pearl drops earrings that belonged to Queen Elizabeth. It has been reported that they are worth more than £20,000, but we have found for you a stunning alternate for just £11.99 on Amazon- you can purchase them now if you click here

Kate decided to bring along a small Mulberry handbag – the Bayswater Clutch retails at over £650. If you are after this winter staple for less, then Debenhams have a similar Kurt Gieger style for £45.

Kate completed the look by wearing a gorgeous black hat from Juliette Botterill Millinery.

Queen Camilla was notably absent as she was forced to pull out on doctors’ orders while recovering from a chest infection. But Duchess Sophie has stepped in for her, and took a spot next to Princess Kate. The Queen is said to have dearly wanted to pay tribute in person to the nation’s fallen servicemen and women this weekend, but doctors erred on the side of caution due to the need to stand outside for a prolonged period in the unpredictable weather.

Kate stood proudly on one of the balconies of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. During a particularly poignant moment, she was seen with her eyes closed and tight-lipped.

In January, both the King, 75, and the Princess of Wales underwent surgery and were subsequently diagnosed with cancer. This meant she was forced to step back from her duties to complete chemotherapy treatment.

Since completing the treatment, Kate has been making a gradual return to public engagements.

Prince William, 42, recently admitted that it “has been the hardest year of my life” as he was forced to rush to both his wife and father’s aid at the start of the year following their shock diagnosis.

Asked how the past 11 months have been for him, William said: “Honestly? It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.”

In an interview with the UK media, he touched upon how proud he was of King Charles. Earlier this week he spent four days in Cape Town, South Africa for his  Earthshot prize campaign.

William said: “I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
