Piers Morgan’s eight-word verdict on Prince Andrew and Fergie sparks backlash | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Duchess Sarah Ferguson, aka Fergie, promised she wouldn’t « let Prince Andrew down » shortly before his relationship with a Chinese man who has been banned from the UK owing to « spying » fears was exposed.

Fergie made it clear where her loyalty lay in a recent interview – and now Piers Morgan has praised her for her continuing support, which comes after Andrew was also previously quizzed about his association with late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Taking to X, Piers wrote: « I love people who are steadfastly loyal to those in real difficulty and the subject of public opprobrium.

« Very easy to be someone’s supportive mate when they’re riding high, much more impressive when they’re on the rack. » Andrew quickly clarified that he’d « ceased all contact » with the businessman, known as H6, after the allegations emerged.

Meanwhile, Fergie gave a candid account of how she feels about Andrew now, almost 33 years after they separated following a six year marriage. She told the Sunday Times Magazine during an interview attended by herself and her sister Jane that she’d been « utterly in love » with the Prince, and doesn’t intend to step away now.

« I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him, » she stated. « He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. »

Fergie continued: « I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent.

“He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. »

She added that she’d sacrificed her anonymity to tie the knot to him, explaining: « I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today.”

Fergie, who became a carer for her father earlier in life after her mum married a polo player and relocated to Argentina, made a comparison to the way that she now cares for Andrew – a « sad man » too.

However, opinions were mixed in Piers’ comments section on X, as readers analysed her loyalty to him.

« Sticking by Andrew at this point takes more guts than good judgment, » one fan exclaimed.

Another, citing his former friendship with Epstein, suggested: « Although I wouldn’t necessarily judge her negatively for standing by Andrew’s side, I think she should be more discreet about it… it’s not very wise or appropriate for her to brag too loudly about her loyalty to him. »

Yet a third praised: « When you start winning again you will always remember who was around during your darkest, most difficult moments, and who wasn’t. »

Someone else agreed: « True loyalty shines when someone stands by others at their lowest, not just during their highs. »
