Man Utd ‘cancel end-of-season awards dinner’ after Ten Hag meeting | Football | Sport

Players will still receive their awards, which their peers, coaches and supporters vote on, but there will be no event celebrating their achievements this season. Last year, award recipients were presented with their trophies on the Old Trafford pitch in the final game of the campaign.

The glitzy event has been running for over a decade, barring a two-year hiatus during Covid-19, and is typically an event that players especially look forward to after a gruelling season.

It is not the first time that the club has taken such measures, having also cancelled the event at the end of the 2021/22 season under Ralf Rangnick, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been sacked earlier in the campaign. That year the call was said to have been driven by the players, who did not feel that their performances justified celebration.
