Man threatens to murder wife in front of police unless they arrest him | UK | News

A man has been jailed after he assaulted his partner and chillingly told police officers, « if you don’t arrest me, I’ll murder her ».

The dreadful episode unfolded on June 13 at about half-past twelve in the afternoon when constables responded to an urgent call at 66-year-old Raymond Yardy’s home following reports of a domestic squabble with his wife escalating into violence. The authorities dashed to Yardy’s home situated on Coneygree Road in Peterborough to take control of the situation.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement learned that Yardy had become exasperated over his wife’s canine companions damaging the carpet, and exacerbated by accusing her of alcohol abuse, the argument intensified. It reached a boiling point when Yardy throttled his wife and menaced her life, compelling her to alert the police.

The intervention of the police resulted in the decision for Yardy’s wife to temporary refuge at a comrade’s residence for the night. Yet, just when the police were set to exit the premises, Yardy exhibited alarming conduct which prompted his immediate detention.

Yardy’s agitation spiked, and he was seen menacingly clasping his partner’s throat and yanking her back into the abode right before the watchful eyes of the constables. In a defiant stance, Yardy dared the officers to detain him as he threatened his spouse’s life once more, subsequently presenting himself for handcuffing.

Fast forward to four months later, on the Tuesday of October 8, Yardy faced justice. He admitted to the charge of issuing death threats and, at Peterborough Crown Court, received a sentence of one year and eight months for his deeds. PC Ryan Grist, who led the investigation, commented: « Yardy’s actions in front of police officers showed just how violent he was capable of being. He showed no remorse and, had he not been jailed, his victim would likely have suffered more abuse at his hands. »
