Various chilled and ready-to-eat foods are being recalled from supermarket shelves over concerns of potential Listeria contamination.
Bead Spread, a popular food brand, is recalling all chilled foods sold under brand names ‘Bread Spread’, ‘Orbital Foods’ and ‘Perfect Bite’ due to fears that the bacteria may cause serious health issues.
The recall includes a range of products, including sandwiches, wraps, baguettes, twists, frenchsticks, and torpedos, all of which feature various fillings.
Listeria, a bacterium found in soil, water, and some animals, can lead to symptoms resembling flu, such as high temperature, muscle aches or pains, chills, vomiting, and diarrhea.
In rare cases, Listeria infection can result in more severe complications, including meningitis.
The FSA advises that certain groups are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including individuals over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, infants less than one-month-old, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Consumers who have purchased the affected products are urged not to consume them. Instead, they should return the items to the place of purchase for a full refund.
