King Charles has referenced his upcoming 76th birthday in a heartfelt letter this week.
The 75-year-old monarch sent a personal letter of thanks to the Military Wives Choirs after they released the new single November Sunday in his honour.
The lullaby reflects on the “chilly” London night on November 14 1948 when the King was born at Buckingham Palace, years before the accession to the throne of his late mother Queen Elizabeth II.
The Telegraph reports that it is the group’s first chart-topping Military Wives Choirs’ recording in four years since 2020.
In the letter, King Charles told the choir he was “deeply touched” by the single, before making a quip about his “advancing years”.
He wrote: “While those of us of a certain age may feel the need for any such birthday celebrations is in inverse proportion to our advancing years, I am nonetheless deeply touched by your wonderfully thoughtful tribute.
“I also wanted to thank you for your steadfast support not only for your loved ones serving in our military, who sacrifice so much time away from you and your families to protect us, but also for one another.
“Having sung in a choir myself when I was at school, I know the joy of performing together can create close-knit friendships and support groups, and I remain a firm believer that music has a unique power to unite and inspire us all.”
The Military Wives Choirs charity released the new single on November 1 at the start of the King’s birthday month. The charity aims to unite women in the military through singing.
