King Charles has ‘left door open’ for Prince Harry as Duke prepares for UK return | Royal | News

King Charles has « left the door open » for Prince Harry as the duke prepares to return to the UK later this month, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex will travel to his home country for the fourth time this year to attend the WellChild Awards on September 30, which has sparked hope for a possible meeting between him and his father.

Harry has been estranged from the Royal Family with his relationship described as « frosty » by many royal watchers.

While some reports suggested that a meeting between father and son will be unlikely as Charles will be in Scotland for a special 25th-anniversary celebration at the Scottish Parliament on September 28, a royal expert claimed that Harry’s latest trip back could pave the way for a meeting and reconciliation with the King.

Royal historian Hugo Vickers told the Sun: « Well, he does seem to be coming quite often, doesn’t he? Which in some ways is a good sign, I think.

« If he keeps coming at least there is a chance at some stage he’ll meet up with his father, and you know, maybe this can be a step towards some sort of reconciliation.

« I think there’s quite a long way to go but it’s nice that he feels he can come here anyway. »

The expert added that if any meeting will take place it will be on the King’s terms.

He said: « If I may put it like this, if the King wishes to see him, he will arrange to see him.

« If he doesn’t wish to see him, he’ll be too busy. Simple as that. »

Mr Vickers added: « The King certainly leaves the door open for him. But I think, if Prince Harry is sitting in California, resenting the Royal Family’s attitude to him, he’ll just consider a little bit about why that is the case.

But the expert claimed it’s highly unlikely Prince Harry will get to meet with his older brother, Prince William.

He explained: « I think it’s much more likely that he’ll have a meeting with the King.

« I don’t think there’s any particular wish on Prince William‘s behalf to see his brother.

« I mean they were both at Lord Fellows’ funeral or memorial service in Norfolk recently.

« They didn’t actually speak so no, I don’t think there will be any particular wish for them to get together. »
