Keanu Reeves breaks silence on John Wick 4’s jaw-dropping ending | Films | Entertainment

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves said he and Chad needed a “Why?” for making a fourth movie after the incredible response to John Wick Chapter 3. For the star and his director, that “Why?” would be death: the death of John Wick himself.

The actor said: “For him to get his peace, or freedom, in a way…that was the reason to make the movie. It can’t just be, ‘Let’s do another one.’ It was really about death, or a way of dying. We were really inspired by the Hagakure.”

That’s the Japanese code of Samurai ethics, so the way we live well and die well was the theme of movie. In fact, at one point that was the subtitle of the film on set. And Wick’s death scene, whether real or not, turned out to be Reeves’ favourite of the entire shoot.
