A globe-trotting YouTuber has shared a simple travel trip that could save you cash when you’re travelling abroad.
It’s safe to assume that travel vlogger Christian, who has visited around 100 countries over 10 years, will know a thing or two when it comes to travel tips.
In fact, the YouTuber, who shares his adventures on the Lost LeBlanc channel, has recently revealed 50 of the « juiciest » tips that he’s learned while traversing the globe.
As any seasoned traveller knows, keeping a handle on your finances while you’re abroad is vital, especially when you’re dealing with exchange rates for local currency.
However, Christian has urged prospective travellers to keep an eye out for a certain prompt that you may encounter when you pay by card in a foreign country.
Christian said: « When you go to make a transaction, how many times have you seen that prompt, ‘Would you like to pay in the local currency or in your hometown currency?' »
He continued: « Always choose local currency. If you’re in Bali, pay in IDR; if you’re in Dubai, pay in AED. If you choose your hometown currency, you are going to be paying a savage conversion rate to the ATM machine.
« You’re better off paying the transaction fee to your hometown bank than that random little payment processor in the coffee shop in Medellín. »
Christian’s advice comes after travel expert Maximillian Angel shared a simple hack to help people save cash when they’re jetting off to long-haul eastern destinations.
Maximillian advised Brits to consider not booking directly from the UK. He said it’s sometimes worth travelling to a European city to catch a long-haul flight, with Singapore offering networks « all around Asia ».
He went on to reveal his own personal experience of cut-price travel when he flew from Singapore via Athens, dubbing it a « simple flight back to the UK ».
In October, Post Office Travel Money released its annual Long Haul Holiday Report, which revealed Cape Town as the best value long-haul holiday spot.
UK travellers could enjoy a 12 percent slash in costs from the same time in 2023, with tourists set to benefit from local price reductions and a fall in the local currency.
