Horror as mum-to-be died after 160ft plunge on hiking holiday | World | News

A soon-to-be mum has died after falling 160ft while on a hiking holiday in Greece.

Clara Thomann, 33, fell into a gorge near Plakias in Crete on 23 December.

Her family, loved ones and students have paid tribute to her.

Clara was reportedly six months pregnant when she lost her footing while on the hike, causing her to fall.

The Californian native was found by first responders and construction workers who witnessed the accident, reports The Sun.

When she arrived at hospital, she was reportedly alive and conscious but she unfortunately died a few days later.

Clara had suffered multiple fractures to her chest and skull which had caused her to be brain dead.

Her unborn baby is said to have died instantly in the fall.

Clara was a science teacher at a High School in Goleta – her family went to Crete to spend her final few days with her before she died.

Her family shared a touching tribute online which read: “Clara loved helping and teaching others.

“She was always there for her family and friends and would want us all to make excuses to gather, hold each other tight, and celebrate.”

Her devastated husband Elliot Finn announced both Thomann and the baby were cremated in Athens on Friday – he had also been on the hiking trip at the time of the accident.

Elliot said her loved ones have spent time doing all the things Clara loved to do.

He said: “We’ve been celebrating Clara, hiking to beaches and collecting shells, rocks, and more memories.”

Parents of kids who Thomann taught left heartfelt messages online as they showed their appreciation for the beloved tutor.

One said: “My son was her student and she was his favorite teacher.”

Another said: “She will be missed but never forgotten.”
