Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s objective for their three-day visit to Nigeria has become clear, according to a royal commentator. Podcast host and royal commentator, Kinsey Schofield believes that their aim is to get the « respect » they had when they were members of the Royal Family.
Ms Schofield told GB News: « I think the ultimate objective is to have that respect that they had when they were members of the Royal Family and that’s what they were trying to do. »
GB News hosts questioned why Meghan Markle believes Nigeria « is her home » when she spent the majority of her time as a part of the Firm in the UK.
Kinsey claimed: « She’s obviously trying to win these people over and let her, that’s fine. Go where you’re celebrated not where you’re tolerated. »
The podcast host explained further: « I would be hurt if I was the UK. But obviously, she doesn’t want to be there anymore. For some reason she is trying to make Nigeria fall in love with her. There are some people that are excited about it and are happy they are there… »
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited to Nigeria by the chief of the defence staff. They visited the West African country to promote the duke’s Invictus Games, which stages sporting events for wounded, sick or injured veterans and serving military personnel.
The visit is the Sussex royals’ first to Africa since 2019. During their last official visit as working royals, the couple visited South Africa, Malawi, Angola and Botswana.
On May 8, Harry marked the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in London where he gave a reading.
He did not manage to meet his father, King Charles, or brother, Prince William, during his brief visit due to his father’s « full programme », the duke’s spokesperson said.
