Whether you’re hoping to snap up a last-minute sunshine holiday or are looking ahead to the toasty days of summer, there’s one island destination which a travel agent says is a “top trending” location for British tourists. And right now,

According to travel agents from Brightsun Travel, the Canary Islands is among six destinations they say are the “top trending” holiday hotspots for Britons in 2024.

This beautiful Spanish archipelago located off the northwest coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean is made up of seven main islands: Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

Their unique landscape and mid-haul flight time are two major reasons Britons are drawn to these islands. However, there is one other key factor that makes the Canary Islands such a lusted-after hotspot throughout the year.

“The Canary Islands offer a mild, subtropical climate throughout the year, therefore are a prime choice for a holiday in any season,” explained a travel agent from Brightsun Travel.

“Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria are looking to be popular travel hotspots this year, where you can discover diverse landscapes like volcanic beaches, golden sand dunes, and national parks, many of which have been designated as UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.”

Right now, Jet2holidays is offering customers up to £240 off all Canary Islands holidays.

As part of their latest deal, Jet2holidays is already offering customers £50 per person off an array of holidays across their website, including destinations throughout the Canary Islands. However, customers who sign up for a MyJet2 account can get an extra £10 per person off. This means £60 per person, equating to £120 off holidays for couples and up to £240 off for a family of four. has independently searched Jet2holidays’ website to round-up just a few of the offers available right now:

Which is the hottest of the Canary Islands?

Although each of the Canary Islands enjoys a similar subtropical climate with mild temperatures even in the winter months. During the winter, all of the islands usually enjoy average temperatures of between 18 and 22C, rising to around 30C in the height of the summer.

However, Lanzarote is typically the hottest and most arid, as it is the closest to the Sahara desert and a low-lying island.

Ultimately, where you decide to stay on each of the islands is the best indication of the type of weather you will experience.

In all instances, the southern and eastern coasts are likely to be the driest and sunniest.

The Canary Islands are a popular holiday destination and it is hard to say which is the most popular, as each offers its own unique experience. However, of the islands, Tenerife is the most populous, attracting more than five million tourists yearly, according to Statista figures from 2022.

Gran Canaria ranked in second place, attracting approximately 3.8 million holidaymakers in the same year.

This was followed by Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Based on Statista’s findings, La Palma was one of the quietest of the Canary Islands.

How long does it take to get to the Canary Islands?

Flight times to each of the Canary Islands vary depending on your destination airport and can vary slightly between departure airports in different parts of the UK.

On average, it takes four hours and 20 minutes to get to Tenerife. Flights to Lanzarote take an average of four hours.

Flying to Gran Canaria takes an average of four hours and 35 minutes, while the flight time to La Palma is typically four hours and 22 minutes.

You can get direct flights to Fuerteventura from the UK which takes an average of four hours and 20 minutes.  

 El Hierro and La Gomera typically need to be reached via connecting flights.
