Europe’s cheapest romantic city break is so pretty | Travel News | Travel

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you’ve left it a little late to buy a gift, why not plan a romantic city break for later this year?

Paris might be the City of Love but a holiday in the French capital unfortunately comes at a hefty price.

However, there are plenty of alternative options that are much cheaper. The travel expert team at Wizz Air recommended Bratislava as a cheap romantic break for couples.

A spokesperson said: “While Slovakia may not be the obvious option for a romantic getaway, its capital city, Bratislava, offers many affordable attractions for couples to enjoy.

“Why not explore the historic Bratislava Old Town for free, or watch a romantic sunset at Bratislava Castle, following an intimate dinner by the River Danube.”

Bratislava’s Old Town is extremely walkable and it’s home to the city’s Castle and pastel coloured buildings.

It’s the ideal spot for a romantic drink or dinner with plenty of cafes and restaurants on cobbled streets.

A quirky landmark, Bratislava’s UFO Tower sits on the riverbank overlooking the city. While it’s the best place to visit for views, there’s also a restaurant at the top.

If you’re looking for a spot of culture, head to Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum for modern art.

While it may not be the daintiest dish to eat in front of a date, Slovakia’s famous sheep cheese dumplings are well worth a taste.

Bratislava is also a short train journey from Vienna so Brits could combine both cities into one trip.
