Police stormed a beautiful UK national park over the Easter bank holiday weekend after hundreds of youngsters went to an illegal rave – which spiralled out of control.

Residents say they felt « trapped » in their own homes on Easter Sunday, with music heard for miles in Exmoor, with cars crowding the streets near Watchet in Somerset.

Members of the emergency services rushed to the scene at around 6am to find hundreds of revellers, Mail Online reports.

Makeshift stages, gazebos and loudspeakers were set up in the middle of Exmoor National Park, according to reports.

Revellers wearing rabbit ears and holding cans of cider can be seen dancing in one video, with hire vans and at least 20 cars crammed into a car park.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police told the BBC on Sunday (March 31) the force had received a call at about 6am relating to an unlicensed music event in the Luxborough area, near Watchet.

They added: « Officers were on the scene within 15 minutes to find the event already underway with several hundred people in attendance.

« Our officers remain at the site and have been engaging with individuals attending the event. They have also been engaging with members of the public and providing community reassurance. »

One eyewitness, who didn’t want to be named, said they hadn’t seen anything like it before, adding they felt concerned for people’s safety.

The witness added some locals saw their house surrounded by people attending the event and described vans blasting out music, leaving people feeling « trapped in their homes ».
