The UK is home to more than 1,000 , each offering something unique. However, according to visitor reviews on Tripadvisor, one sandy stretch in has been ranked among the top beaches in the country thanks to its « beautiful » surroundings and « blue water ». The beach was also crowned with a Tripadvisor Award in 2023.

Nestled on a curve of coastline approximately half a mile west of Newquay is Fistral Beach, looking out across the waters of Fistral Bay.

Cornwall is a known hotspot thanks to its gorgeous scenery and array of nature, and Fistral Beach is one of the region’s most popular. With waves which can reach more than eight feet in height, the beach is at the epicentre of Cornwall’s surfing scene, and as a result has a cool, laid-back vibe.

If you ever fancy giving surfing a go yourself, there are plenty of dedicated facilities including surf hire and lessons.

Throughout the year, the beach is buzzing with atmosphere and hosts an array of events, including surfing competitions.

There are also plenty of dining and drinking destinations to choose from, such as Rick Stein’s casual dining restaurant which combines local seafood with flavours inspired by the chef’s travels.

The water is good for swimming with lifeguards on duty throughout the year, although it’s always best to double-check the swells before heading in for a dip.

Spanning 750 meters, the sandy stretch is perfect for sunbathing or enjoying a family picnic and is dog-friendly all year.

Fistral Beach is at its busiest during the summer months, especially on hot days. Though the average high during the peak summer months of July and August sits at 19C, the region is known for soaring temperatures during heatwaves.

In fact, in August 2022, one of the highest temperatures since 2007 was recorded by The Newquay Weather Station with the thermometer rising to a scorching 32.4C.

A previous visitor to the beach who spent a day there in the summer of 2023 described it as a « must-go-to beach ». He added: « We love this beach so much. My 11-year-old daughter wants to live there when she’s older. Absolutely amazing time there. Beautiful beach, blue water. » [SIC]

Another Tripadvisor reviewer commended how safe they felt on the beach thanks to the lifeguards. « Fantastic beach, lifeguards work incredibly hard to ensure the safety of everyone, » they said.
