Just a brief ferry journey from the lively city of Naples, Ischia serves as the perfect spot for those seeking a tranquil and rejuvenating getaway.

Known as the Green Island due to its lush greenery and stunning landscapes, Ischia boasts vibrant lemon trees, charming villages, gorgeous beaches and awe-inspiring views at every corner.

Whether you opt to trek through its picturesque volcanic terrains or unwind in one of its natural hot springs, this is the destination to relax, take it easy and savour life’s pleasures.

When it comes to accommodation in Ischia, the four-star Hotel Terme Tritone is ideally situated right on the seafront in the bay of San Francesco in Forio. Guests can reach its private beach and crystal-clear waters in just a few steps.

Established by the Masuccis in 1970 and still operated by the family, this luxury hotel has served as a sanctuary for island visitors for over half a century, with loyal guests returning annually.

You have the option to stay in the main hotel, with balconies offering views of the gardens or the sea, or in a separate villa comprising 15 rooms.

We settled into a garden view room, equipped with its own terrace, before making our way to the Bar Il Mosaico, reports OK!

Here, we enjoyed a pre-dinner Hugo Spritz while taking in the breathtaking view of palm trees from the panoramic terrace.

A stay at Hotel Terme Tritone offers access to its wellness centre, and for the full experience, we suggest indulging in its sulphurous pools, Turkish baths and saunas to rejuvenate body and soul.

For a touch of luxury, consider mud-bath therapy, cryotherapy or a hot stone massage. High-tech beauty treatments are also on offer.

When it comes to dining in Ischia, Ristorante Pizzeria Da Ciccio was a favourite of ours, where we enjoyed pizzas such as the broccolona – topped with broccoli florets and diced potatoes – and the parmesan-laden pizza cosacca.

Advance booking is necessary as this place gets busy quickly.

If you’re marking a special occasion or wish to dine like Hollywood royalty, make your way to Luci at the Punta Imperatore Lighthouse.

A stay at the lighthouse was part of the 2023 Oscars goodie bag, so you’re guaranteed an unforgettable evening.

Chef Antonio Monti and his team will spoil you with their surprise tasting menu – and if you time your visit right, you can watch the sunset over the Mediterranean from the panoramic rooftop bar.

Given that Ischia is surrounded by water, our trip wouldn’t have been complete without trying the seafood. For an authentic experience, we visited Un Attimo Di Vino, which boasts a terrace overlooking the marina.

The menu changes daily, based on the morning’s catch, and we were impressed with its variety of pastas and salads.

With its lush landscapes and breathtaking scenery, Ischia is a haven for explorers.

Be sure to bring comfortable shoes, as you’ll want to hike through the island’s picturesque vineyards, taking in the stunning views of the Gulf of Naples.

A visit to the Antonio Mazzella winery cellars is a must, where you can sample some of the island’s renowned mineral-rich wines.

In Ischia Porto, follow in the footsteps of Matt Damon’s character in The Talented Mr Ripley and stroll through the bustling Ischia Ponte, where you can indulge in a delicious pastry and espresso.

Take a step back in time with a visit to the 12th-century Castello Aragonese, perched on its own islet, and discover the castle’s rich history while taking in the breathtaking views.

For a different perspective, set sail on a boat tour from the Port of Ischia and let the summer breeze guide you.

Back on land, explore the stunning gardens, such as the subtropical and Mediterranean La Mortella Gardens, created by Sir William Walton and his wife Lady Susana Walton, and hailed as « the most beautiful park in Italy ».

The Ravino Gardens, home to one of Europe’s largest succulent plant collections, is another must-visit, featuring impressive cacti, flowering carob trees, and enormous lemons.

Be sure to try the unique cactus cocktail, made from cacti seeds, passionfruit juice, and four kinds of mint. Ischia is also famous for its natural hot springs, which are believed to have healing properties.

Ischia boasts numerous thermal spring experiences, with the Poseidon Thermal Gardens being a top choice. Spanning 500 metres of coast and offering stunning views of the Bay of Citara, it features over 20 pools with temperatures varying from 28 to 40 degrees.

The volcanic-origin hot springs are believed to rejuvenate skin against stress and ageing. Additionally, the park offers a private beach and a health and wellness centre.

Hotel Terme Tritone rooms start at £111 per night. For more details and bookings, visit the hotel’s website or booking platforms like Expedia.
