A seasoned British traveller has revealed the location of the « craziest place » he’s ever visited, taking to TikTok to showcase his latest adventure.
Louie Carabott (@louiecarabott_) has spent time in Brazil, Colombia and Thailand in recent weeks, and is now in India where he is documenting his trip. With the sun beaming down on him, he cursed: « This has got to be the dirtiest place I’ve ever been to in my life. »
Panning his camera around a neighbourhood he passed through, the travel enthusiast was left in shock by the condition of the streets. « Apparently in Mumbai it’s all full of rubbish – this used to be a river, » he explained, looking down from a bridge at an area filled with litter.
« Let me show you these streets, » he continued. « They are absolutely crazy. This place actually might be too much for me. » Continuing his venture past street traders and food stalls, Louie added: « The business is alright, but plus the heat and everyone trying to sell you stuff… it’s hectic – there’s no other place in Asia like this. »
Detailing further problems with rubbish, Louie recorded footage of streets being swept with the defeaning sounds of car horns ringing out around him. « There’s literally people everywhere – people honking their horns… this place is mental. »
« Without you even saying the name of the place, I knew it was Mumbai, » one of Louie’s 158,000 followers responded, speaking from experience. « I’d be out of there on a plane ASAP! » penned a second in shock.
A third added: « Unbelievable. I couldn’t do it. You’re brave. » Whilst a fourth confessed: « Really wanted to go. My husband went for work and now refuses to take me because he said it’s beyond dirty. »
Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the financial capital and most populous city of India with an estimated population of 12.5 million residents.
According to the Hindustan Times, over the past century, the grounds have risen with the city’s rubbish making « mountains » of waste nearly as tall as 18-storey buildings. Spread over 300 acres, it’s a township that houses Mumbai’s castaway belongings, diseases and people.
The web site adds that Deonar – a Mumbai suburb – is one of Asia’s largest dumping grounds and is probably its oldest too. « It reflects the dizzying growth and swelling desires of a city, » Hindustan Times adds. « The landfill currently holds between 13 million to 16 million tonnes of garbage, with at least 2000 Metric Tonnes (MT) added to it daily.
« Some of the most common ailments to be found among the residents here include asthma, multiple drug resistant tuberculosis, cuts, bruises and eye disorders. »
