Mike Tindall’s nickname for Prince William that got him in trouble | Royal | News

Prince William previously revealed Mike Tindall offered him an apology after revealing a cheeky three-word nickname he’d given him.

Tindall, a former England rugby player and husband of William‘s cousin Zara, revealed late last year that he called the heir to the throne, “One Pint Willy”, claiming the royal is « not the best of drinkers ».

He acknowledged that he came from a sport « where it is built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often ».

Mr Tindall made the comments during an appearance on a podcast hosted by late rugby league legend and health campaigner Rob Burrow in December.

« That is one I will give away for the Prince of Wales, » he told the BBC‘s Seven: Rob Burrow.

The revelation prompted Zara to exclaim: « Oh my god, you’re in so much trouble, » and it wasn’t long before the Prince learnt that the cat was out of the bag.

BBC Breakfast subsequently put out a clip of the Prince being asked about the nickname in Leeds while speaking with Mr Burrow as he awarded him a CBE.

Mr Burrow – who passed away in June aged 41 following a lengthy battle with a motor neurone disease, mischeviously told the Prince that he “recently met Zara and Mike”, adding: “Mike has some secrets he told me which the kids found very amusing.”

William saw the funny side and gave a wry smile: “I think that might be some of the nicknames, » he said. « Was it you who got the nicknames out of him?”

The Prince added that Tindall « apologised to me about that. I was like, ‘Mike, when you say you’re not going to mention anyone’s nicknames that doesn’t mean you can then mention my nickname. That’s not fair.' »

The Prince of Wales later presented Mr Burrow with the prestigious gong in recognition of his tireless fundraising for motor neurone diseases.

Celebrating Mr Burrow’s achievements, William said: « The most amount of thank yous and congratulations for all the inspirational work you’ve done Rob, you’ve been amazing and everyone’s so proud of you. »

The Prince and Tindall go back along way, having been close since before the former Gloucester and Bath star met Zara, because of the royal’s love for rugby, The Evening Standard reports.

Though William might not be known as a big drinker, has been seen enjoying the odd pint from time to time, including during a special episode of Peter Crouch’s podcast he hosted at Kensington Palace in 2021.
