World Darts Championship star speaks out on ban for failed drugs test | Other | Sport

He was immediately suspended by the Darts Regulation Authority and missed out on competing at the World Championship 12 months ago.

He attended a disciplinary hearing, in which a potential two-year ban was reduced to one month, after Taylor proved the unnamed substance was not performance-enhancing and was taken outside of competition.

The world No. 65 also committed to completing a three-month treatment programme, which has been approved by UK Anti-Doping.

« Although he had tested positive in competition the committee were satisfied that the ingestion of the prohibited substance took place out of competition, » the DRA said in January.

After beating Lukasiak, Taylor revealed he was “hurt massively” by the ordeal and ignored his fellow competitors while he was forced to spend time away from the oche.

He will face either Jonny Clayton or Adam Lipscombe in the second round and in Taylor’s eyes, he can win the entire tournament.

Speaking on his suspension this year, he said: “It hurt massively, hurt massively. Biggest let down of my life. But I’ve rebounded back and here we are.

“I wasn’t speaking to anyone, keeping myself to myself and just practising. Just push forward and knew that I was going to be here and made sure that I was here.

“I’m not going to put any expectation or pressure on myself. If I didn’t believe I was going to walk home with a million pounds, I wouldn’t be here.”
