As the United States continues to carry out attacks on Iran, the White House is receiving criticism for sharing a ‘dystopian’ video that mixes Call of Duty gameplay with footage of real-life missile strikes.
Posted on X, the video starts out with footage from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, which was released in 2023. It shows a character pulling out a laptop to call in the Mass Guided Bombs killstreak, which is achieved by earning 30 weapon kills in a row without dying.
After calling in the killstreak, the video then cuts to US jets taking off and unclassified footage of missile strikes hitting targets. These clips are overlaid with HUD elements from Call of Duty, including a minimap in the top left corner and a score indicator when each missile hits its target.
The video is accompanied with a simple caption: “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue.”
X users were quick to criticise the video, with one reply reading: “Did I just watch a Call of Duty compilation with IRL footage posted on the official White House account.”
Another comment reads: ““Bro. I am not political and only focus on market impact, but making memes while you openly killed tons of civilians is insanely out of touch and dystopian.”
Neither the US or Israel have acknowledged the attack on the Iranian elementary school.
The New York Times reports that an estimated 800 civilians have been killed in the conflict since Saturday, February 28, 2026.
It’s currently unclear if the video was posted with the permission or prior knowledge from Call of Duty publisher Activision. The company is yet to comment on the use of footage in the White House’s video.
This isn’t the first time that the White House has invoked gaming references. Back in October 2025, it posted an AI generated image of President Trump dressed as Master Chief while wielding an energy sword.
