US death toll update as CENTCOM confirms more servicemen killed in Iran strikes | World | News

Six US service members have been « killed in action » in strikes by Iran, with Central Command (CENTCOM) issuing a new update. The announcement was made by CENTCOM on its official X page.

It wrote: « As of 4pm ET, March 2, six US service members have been killed in action. US forces recently recovered the remains of two previously unaccounted for service members from a facility that was struck during Iran’s initial attacks in the region. Major combat operations continue. The identities of the fallen are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification. »

The announcement on Monday came as the third day of US and Israeli strikes on Iran unfolded, a campaign that has already killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and triggered retaliatory attacks by Iran across multiple parts of the Middle East.

The military said it will not release the names of the fallen troops until at least 24 hours after their families have been notified, following standard next‑of‑kin procedures.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump warned that additional US casualties were likely, after initially confirming that three American service members had been killed in Kuwait during the escalating conflict with Iran.

Subsequent updates from US Central Command indicated that the death toll had risen, with one of the wounded later succumbing to injuries sustained in Iranian strikes.
