UK Foreign Office warning over ‘potentially significant air attack’ | Travel News | Travel

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has warned of a « potentially significant air attack » in Ukraine in the coming days.

Britain’s foreign affairs department issued the alert on Friday (January 9), with FCDO guidance stating: « Martial law is in place.

« Information has been received concerning a potentially significant air attack that may occur at any time over the next several days. Follow the instructions of the Ukrainian authorities and check any measures in place in your location, as they will vary by region. »

The guidance urges anyone in Ukraine to monitor local media for security updates in their area, identify shelter locations before any air alert, and take cover immediately if an air alert sounds.

Britons should also follow directions from Ukrainian officials and emergency responders, take precautions such as conserving water, food and mobile phone battery, keep warm clothing and sleeping bags accessible, stay informed via local media including power outage schedules, and remain vigilant about personal security.

People are additionally advised to steer clear of demonstrations and public gatherings, exercise extra caution when travelling, and remain aware of any curfews in effect.

The FCDO advises against all travel to certain parts of Ukraine, and recommends against all but essential travel to other areas of the country.
