The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a warning to UK citizens against travelling to certain areas within popular Eastern Mediterranean holiday destinations as the summer holiday season approaches.
The FCDO has updated its list of « no-go » zones in Turkey, Cyprus, and Greece as Brits gear up for their summer getaways.
Countries neighbouring Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus have also been thrust into conflict following joint strikes on Iran by the US and Israel just a month ago. Iran retaliated by targeting sites across the region, plunging the Middle East into turmoil.

The FCDO has advised against all travel within 10km of the Turkey- Syria border. « Fighting in Syria continues in areas close to the Turkish border and there is a heightened risk of terrorism in the region, » the FCDO stated.
It also cautioned that roads in Hatay Province leading towards the border may be closed at short notice due to the conflict.
Hakkari province, south-east Turkey
« In Hakkari province you must get permission from the local Governor’s Office to visit areas near the border with Iraq and Iran, » the FCDO stated. It warned that if visiting with a travel agent or tour group, you should confirm with them whether you need an individual permit.
Mount Ararat, eastern Turkey
Mount Ararat is a designated military zone and you must obtain authorisation from the Doğubayazıt government office and pay a fee. « If visiting with a travel agent or tour group, confirm with them whether you need an individual permit, » the FCDO said.
No-go zones in Cyprus
The FCDO said: « Terrorist attacks in Cyprus cannot be ruled out ».
