Donald Trump is facing calls to stand down as the US President following his latest bizarre claim, which was aired on the American news channel. Fox News was halted for a breaking Trump alert yesterday evening, during which he vowed to sue the BBC after accusing the corporation of « putting words in my mouth » in relation to the Panorama speech scandal, which had hit the headlines in recent weeks.
Speaking live from the White House in Washington, DC, Trump told the media, « I’m suing the BBC for putting words in my mouth literally. They put words in my mouth. They had me saying things that I never said. I guess they used AI or something. So we have that lawsuit, a lot of people have been asking me when we are bringing that lawsuit, even the media can’t believe that one. »
He claimed: « They actually put terrible words in my mouth to do with January 6 that I didn’t say. And the beautiful words that I said, talking about patriotism and all of the good things that I said, they didn’t say that. But they put terrible words… They actually had me speaking with words that I never said, and they got caught. »
He went on to claim: « I believe someone at the BBC said, ‘This is so bad that it has to be reported.’ It’s called fake news. So we will be filing that suit probably this afternoon or tomorrow morning. »
The BBC spliced together Trump’s speech from January 6, 2021, the day of the attack on the Capitol and admitted to showing excerpts taken from different parts of the speech.
Twitter users have been sharing their thoughts about Trump’s latest claims on the social media platform, with one writing: « Has he just falsely accused the BBC of using AI and of creating words he never said? Oops. »
Another added: « Donald Trump should resign. » A third penned: « Trump needs to resign I’ve voted for him three times I won’t be voting for any Republicans next year or in the next presidential election. »
A fourth wrote: « If Trump uses that excuse to sue the BBC, that’s an easy win for the BBC. » Meanwhile, a fifth shared: « You said all the words, just not in that order. »
A BBC spokesperson said: “As we have made clear previously, we will be defending this case. We are not going to make further comment on ongoing legal proceedings. »
