President Donald Trump paid tribute to the victims of a series of deadly attacks that took place over the weekend, both in the U.S. and overseas.
Speaking at a Christmas reception at the White House on Sunday, Trump addressed the tragic events that have unfolded since Saturday. These included the ambush and killing of two U.S. soldiers and one U.S. translator in Syria, which also left three U.S. soldiers injured.
He further commended Sydney resident Ahmed al-Ahmed for his brave act of disarming one of the Bondi Beach gunmen after, on Sunday morning, an antisemitic terror attack took place during a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, Australia, resulting in the death of 16 people, with at least 42 individuals hospitalised.
‘A very brave person’
« In Australia, as you know, that was a terrible attack…and that was an antisemitic attack obviously. »
« A very, very brave person, actually, who went and attacked frontally one of the shooters and saved a lot of lives. A very brave person who’s right now in the hospital who is pretty seriously wounded. I have great respect for the man that did that.
« We’re here for a different reason. We’re here to celebrate Christmas and to celebrate, » Trump told the crowd gathered. « And I think today we can very say loudly that we celebrate Hanukkah because there was such a horrible attack that was a purely antisemitic attack. »
Trump expressed his desire to « just pay his respects » to those who were « no longer with us.
Trump vows ‘we will retaliate’ after 3 Americans are killed in Syria attack
Two US troops and one American civilian killed in ambush near Palmyra, Syria.
Moreover, Trump reinforced his pledge of retribution against ISIS, following a lone ISIS gunman’s assault in Syria. The ISIS attacker was eliminated on Saturday.
« I must say in Syria, also…we had three great patriots terminated by bad people. And not the Syrian government, it was ISIS, the Syrian government fought by our side.
« It was a rough day. I can tell you in Syria, there will be a lot of damage done to the people who did it. They got the individual person, but there will be big damage done. »
Trump had initially declared on Saturday, within hours of the assault, that America would strike back against ISIS. « We will retalite, » he stated in a concise press briefing before departing for the annual U.S. Army vs. U.S. Navy football match.
« The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and disturbed by this attack. There will be very serious retaliation, » he posted on Truth Social on Saturday.
