Donald Trump has warned Iranian leader Ali Khamenei he should be « very worried » as nuclear talks between the countries reach breaking point.
Axios reports that the US has refused to agree to the terms demanded by Tehran to have talks moved to Oman rather than Turkey, and for other Middle Eastern nations to not be present.
A senior US official said: « We told them it is this or nothing, and they said, ‘Ok, then nothing.' »
An NBC reporter asked Trump if Khamenei « should be worried right now. »
The President replied: « I would say he should be very worried. »
He added: « That country is a mess because of us, we wiped out their nuclear…if I didn’t wipe out their nuclear, we wouldn’t have peace in the Middle East. »
Trump also claimed Iran was « a month from having a nuclear weapon » before the US hit their facilities.
Earlier this week, Trump warned « bad things will happen » if the US and Iran fail to reach a deal.
He said: “We have ships heading to Iran right now, big ones — the biggest and the best — and we have talks going on with Iran and we’ll see how it all works out,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “If we can work something out, that would be great and if we can’t, probably bad things would happen.
“I’d like to see a deal negotiated. I don’t know that that’s going to happen. »
