A 10-foot replica of a sexually suggestive message Donald Trump is said to have written to Jeffrey Epstein has appeared on the National Mall in Washington DC. The installation, which coincided with what would have been the disgraced financier’s 73rd birthday on January 20, featured a drawing of a woman’s torso and what appeared to be the US President’s signature. The reproduction, based on a birthday note bearing Mr Trump’s name that was released among a tranche of documents in Epstein’s possession last year, concluded with the cryptic line: « Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret. »
The other side of the card read « Happy Birthday to a ‘Terrific Guy!' », with a nearby plaque encouraging passersby to add their names alongside a message to the Trump administration. The display, which follows similar statues including one of the US President holding hands with Epstein, was installed by The Secret Handshake, an anonymous group of artists.
Mr Trump has repeatedly denied sending the birthday message, with representatives insisting he « did not draw this picture and he did not sign it ».
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson also criticised the latest display in a statement on Tuesday.
« Kudos to these Trump Deranged Liberals for constantly inventing new ways to light Democrat donor money on fire by spreading fake news, » she said.
The statue, which received a permit from the National Park Service, has permission to remain place until Friday, January 23, according to The Secret Handshake.
While Mr Trump has made headlines for a number of other reasons in recent weeks, Democrats have continued to push for all the so-called Epstein files to be released after the Justice Department failed to meet a deadline of December 19.
Officials said earlier this month that 12,285 of the files have so far been released, with over 2 million still under review.
The US leader was among the famous faces, alongside Bill Clinton and Lord Mandelson, who appeared in the thousands of photographs published online in December.
Mr Trump has not been accused of any legal wrongdoing linked to Epstein, who was found dead in his cell at a federal jail in New York in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His death was ruled a suicide.
