Tottenham player ratings vs Liverpool: Four 4/10s struggle as Spurs crumble in semi-final | Football | Sport

Liverpool booked their spot in the Carabao Cup final with an impressive 4-0 victory over Tottenham on Thursday night, winning 4-1 on aggregate.

The Reds took the lead in the 34th minute when Mohamed Salah’s cross found its way through to Cody Gakpo, who made no mistake from close range. Salah then turned the tie on its head with a sensational penalty in the 51st minute after Antonin Kinsky brought down Darwin Nunez. Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk then completed the rout late on.

Here, Express Sport takes you through how each Spurs star performed on the night as they threw away their one-goal lead tamely…

Tottenham player ratings vs Liverpool (4-3-3)

Antonin Kinsky: 4

Erratic with his output and desire to come off of his line, giving away a corner by punching an unchallenged cross as well as the penalty. The occasion got the better of the 21-year-old far too quickly.

Archie Gray: 5

Lost his man for Gakpo’s opener and failed to convince overall, despite being back in his favoured full-back role. Tough night for the teenager.

Kevin Danso: 6

He’s unlikely to ever have a trickier debut, though he emerged with credit with a few important blocks and tackles.

Ben Davies: 5 (Moore, 82)

Marshalled the makeshift back-four as best as he could but it was a thankless task. Failed to block Van Dijk’s run at the corner before the Liverpool skipper powered his header home.

Djed Spence: 6

Tracked Salah well and managed to cause Liverpool some issues with pacey overlapping runs. His spell in right-wing was a worthwhile experiment.

Rodrigo Bentancur: 4

Was everywhere yet nowhere. Was busy doing nothing at both ends of the pitch despite being in the right areas and was fortunate to have played the full 90 minutes.

Yves Bissouma: 4 (Porro, 57)

For every great tackle, a loose pass followed to undo his good work, as shown by Liverpool’s opener. Needed more from his midfield partners to avoid being tasked with protecting his backline from the endless waves of attacks.

Pape Matar Sarr: 4 (Bergvall, 57)

A nervy performance from the midfielder. Lost possession needlessly and slowed down Spurs on the few occasions they had the chance to get numbers forward and counter in the first half. Held his side back overall.

Dejan Kulusevski: 6

Worked hard offensively and defensively to try and drag his side over the finishing line but to no avail. Drove forward well and managed to make a handful of good interceptions.

Richarlison: 6 (Tel, 45)

Was a handful for Van Dijk to deal with, in and out of possession. Drew fouls and held up possession when he could. Another unfortunate injury will be a crushing blow for the Brazilian

Heung-min Son: 5

Failed to make his mark on the match, with Spurs spending the majority of the game defending. Appeared reluctant to take on his man in fear of losing possession. Smashed a fierce strike against the bar when the game was already out of reach.

SUBS

Mathys Tel: 5

Limited to only a handful of touches. A tough debut against two of the best centre-backs in the business.

Pedro Porro: 5

Ineffective but allowed his side to rejig their midfield, which was more than necessary.

Lucas Bergvall: 6

Unfortunate not to start and showed why. Brings the best out of his teammates with his energy and desire to move the ball forward quickly.

Mikey Moore: N/A

Didn’t stand a chance being brought on so late into the game.
