A village that looks like it’s been lifted straight from a fairytale has earned acclaim from tourists, with many saying it feels as if they’ve stepped back in time during their visit. Corfe Castle is a settlement in Dorset situated on the location of a crumbling fortress bearing the same name. It perches above a valley in the Purbeck Hills in a truly breathtaking location to explore for your next day trip.
One woman, Hannah, is among those who have explored the historic village, and is now encouraging others to do the same. As a well-known travel influencer boasting more than 208,000 Instagram followers, Hannah brought her camera along on her expedition to the Dorset village to showcase everything it offered.
« A real-life fairytale village, tucked into the Dorset countryside, » she wrote in her post’s caption. « This is Corfe Castle, where ivy-covered cottages huddle beneath the ruins of a thousand-year-old castle and time stays stuck. »
In her accompanying footage, Hannah displayed drone shots soaring above the fortress and the settlement as dusk approached, rendering them even more enchanting and scenic.
The castle is currently owned by the National Trust and welcomes visitors, having only opened in December of 2024. The organisation also operates a shop and tearoom within the village.
The village sits in the valley beneath the fortress and is approximately four miles south-east of Wareham, and four miles north-north-west of Swanage. Numerous houses and cottages throughout the village are constructed from the identical stone, establishing it as one of Dorset’s most picturesque and photographed settlements.
Following the castle’s partial demolition in 1646, substantial quantities of the stone were utilised to construct the neighbouring village. The village boasts several independent retailers, public houses, and tea rooms, offering visitors abundant choices when they arrive.
