A European country has been named the most peaceful place in the world, but one of the most expensive spots for a holiday.
Iceland has been declared the world’s safest country for holidays numerous times, but it is also extremely expensive. The Nordic country has some of Europe’s most unique landscapes and breathtaking natural beauty to explore.
Reynisfjara Beach was crowned the country’s best beach in Tripadvisor’s prestigious annual ranking. The black sand beach is covered with volcanic ash and is surrounded by sea stacks.
The country’s tourism board described Iceland as “a true haven of relaxation and rejuvenation, beckoning tired travellers from across the globe”. Several geothermal springs across the island are popular among visitors.
Iceland is also beloved among hikers who visit to explore its diverse landscapes, including mountains and valleys, rugged coastlines, moss-grown lava fields, waterfalls, hot springs, volcanoes, and glaciers.

Iceland also rates highly on LGBTQ+ and gender equality and is one of the world’s safest places to travel as a woman. In the most recent ranking, it came third in the world’s happiest countries, just behind Finland and Denmark.
