Meghan Markle‘s latest blunder has propelled a sleepy municipality of Majorca into the spotlight after she was accused of copying their coat of arms.
The Duchess of Sussex relaunched her brand, American Riviera Orchard, to As Ever, with a new logo.
However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot the similarities to the image used by Porreres in the rural heartland of the Spanish island.
Both crests feature hummingbirds on either side of a palm tree, though they are different colours, and Meghan’s does not feature sand.
Porreres, with a population of 5,000, does not attract many tourists compared to Majorca’s more popular areas, but this may change with the Duchess’ latest move.
Despite being a small area of the island, it’s still rich in history, with settlements dating back to the Bronze Age. The town was occupied by the Saracens and Romans, and there are still wells in it dating back to these periods.
In 1300, Porreres was formally reclaimed by Spain and named after William of Porrer, the knight who conquered it.
In 1868, a riot broke out during « the glorious » revolution, resulting in the town hall burning down, destroying 600 years of historical documents.
Meghan has sparked a wild debate online about the two logos’ similarities. One user wrote on X: « I thought that looked kind of familiar. Good. Grief. Meghan. Markle. »
Another added: « Imagine every person who’s (sic) last name is Porreres suing her for basically trying to copyright their coat of arms. »
There were also plenty of positive responses, with people wishing her all the best in her latest business venture and expressing excitement at what’s to come.
One user on Instagram commented: « I love this so much for Meghan. She deserves nothing but goodness in her life. » A another wrote: « Really looking forward to her new endeavours I hope they go well. »
A third chimed in: « So excited for you Duchess Meghan; I’m excited for your friends, followers, family, groupies—You get my sentiment! »
Another said: « Oh how I love this announcement! It’s a great name, love the meaning behind it and cannot wait to watch and learn and best of all buy! »
