The new train connecting two of Europe’s best cities for just £8 | Travel News | Travel

A new train line that will connect two of Europe’s popular cities will cost just £8.

Dubbed ‘the EasyJet of railways’, GoVolta plans to establish a route between Amsterdam and Berlin by September 2025, with more routes to follow.

Operated by a Dutch company, the low-cost railway line will join other low-cost operators in Europe such as Ougio, a French subsidiary of the French SNCF and Avlo, operated by Spanish rail company Renfe.

The company has pledged that at least 110 tickets for every service will cost under £8 or 10 euros.

Trains will leave early in the morning and arrive late afternoon.

At present, tickets from Amsterdam to Berlin with other rail operators currently range between £31 (€37.90) and £213 (€257), depending on ticket type and class.

At this time, GoVolta train services come as a breath of fresh air for passengers looking for affordable travel.

However, the low-cost train will take more time to reach its destination as compared to the other railways.

The journey will take around eight hours, compared to the six hours it takes on other services.

GoVolta’s founders, Hessel Winkelman and Maarten Bastian, have likened the company to the « easyJet of the rails, » emphasising its focus on affordability.

Their rail services aim to provide budget-friendly travel options, distinguishing them from some of the more expensive train routes across Europe.

The company also intends to expand its services to other cities, including Copenhagen, Basel and Paris.

According to the experts, GoVolta is not building new railway infrastructure; instead, it is launching budget-friendly daytime train services on existing tracks between the popular European countries.

The company is using an open-access model, meaning it operates trains on pre-existing railway networks rather than constructing new lines.
