Some Brits may choose to avoid holidays abroad this summer, favouring a visit to one of our many beautiful seaside towns. There are a host of options available to holidaymakers across the British coastline, including the historic Victorian spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
Located in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, commonly referred to as Saltburn, boasts a pristine eight-mile beach while attracting hardly any tourists. The charming town has one of the most impressive stretches of coastline in the UK, as well as a pier, traditional beach huts and a water-powered cliff tramway.

The beach is one of the most popular attractions in Saltburn, often referred to as a « surfer’s paradise ». The eight-mile stretch is immaculately clean and provides the perfect spot to relax in the summer sunshine.
The Victorian Pier, dating back to the 1800s, offers amazing views across the beach and coastline. From the pier, you can view Saltburn’s array of colourful traditional beach huts.
The Saltburn Cliff Life is the UK’s oldest water-powered funicular railway. As well as offering stunning views, it connects the town centre to the beach.

As it is located on high cliffs, Saltburn is the ideal location for a coastal hike or walk. Visitors benefit from easy access to the popular Cleveland Way national trail.
While the beach is the main attraction, Saltburn town centre is often underestimated among visitors. The charming shopping areas offer everything from cosy cafes and wholesome restaurants to thriving independent shops.
There are also a number of fish and chip shops located along the promenade for those after the traditional seaside experience. Overall, the town provides a quieter and more traditional weekend away compared to larger coastal resorts.

Mumm3 put: « Great beach with a sandy side and a pebble side (fun for sea glass hunting). There were quite a few good places to get a snack or proper meal. The beach huts were very pretty and we enjoyed a game of mini golf next to them. There’s also a lovely pier and an amusement arcade with the usual fun games for kids and adults. »
