While the UK shivers through one of its coldest months, the sun-drenched town of Tamarindo is currently enjoying warm February temperatures. Daytime highs reach 32C, with lows around 23C, while the sea stays a perfect 25C, ideal for swimming in crystal-clear waters and strolling along white sandy beaches. This beautiful and lively beach town in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is popular with surfers riding the Pacific waves and is also known for its stunning sunsets and golden sands.
The laid-back atmosphere will transport you entirely. Some of Tamarindo’s gorgeous beaches to unwind on include Playa Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Playa Langosta, and Playa Avellanas. Visitors can explore the Tamarindo estuary, an intricate network of mangroves and waterways, and nearby Las Baulas National Marine Park to spot crocodiles, monkeys, and turtles.

There’s also sailing, fishing, and vibrant local restaurants and markets to explore. On Thursdays, both visitors and locals wander the Tamarindo Night Market, where over 70 vendors offer food, music, crafts, and a lively atmosphere for all ages.
Another plus is affordability. Despite feeling like a tropical paradise, Costa Rica won’t break the bank.
MoneyWeek has previously named it one of the top 10 cheapest countries to visit, with daily costs remarkably low. Average accommodation runs around £24 per person, while meals average just £9 a day, according to the outlet.
International Living ranked Costa Rica as the top retirement destination for 2024, scoring 83.57 out of 100 in their Global Retirement Index. The country was praised for its high quality of life, affordable cost of living, and its welcoming, eco-friendly culture.
