A stunning Spanish city is the « sunniest in Europe » with return flights from the UK starting at less than £30. Malaga, the capital of the province which shares its name, is located within the autonomous community of Andalusia and is a beloved destination for British sunseekers. And while regular visitors will already be aware that it’s among the sunniest places in Europe, a study says it has the figures to prove it.
Holiday rental portal Holidu analysed data from World Weather Online to identify the cities on the continent where the sun shines the most and found that Malaga ranks top with 280.2 hours of sunshine per month on average. It also has average highs of 31C in July and August, making it perfect for those looking for a sunswept beach getaway.
Fellow Spanish cities Alicante and Murcia were a close second and third with 280 and 277.7 days of sun per month on average, respectively.

Malaga’s dreamy climate and vast coastline has seen it dubbed the « Miami of Europe » by some visitors, and with its array of beautiful beaches its easy to see why.
Among the best are the 3,500-metre-long San Julian beach, Guadalmar, Misericordia, San Andres, La Malagueta and Los Banos del Carmen.
The city also has a rich cultural scene for those looking to cool off.
It was famously the home of celebrated artist Pablo Picasso, and has various museums including Picasso Museum, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, the Saint Petersburg Russian Museum and the Centre of Contemporary Art.
There’s also plenty to explore, and some impressive architecture, including its Roman Theatre, the fortified palace Alcazaba, and the stunning Cathedral of Málaga.
