Sarah Ferguson looks festive in green velvet as she makes surprise appearance | Royal | News

Sarah Ferguson made a particularly poignant visit last week as she attended a special Christmas event in London to support children in need.

The Duchess of York visited Surrey Square Primary School, which was transformed into a Festive Wonderland.

Fergie, as she is known to friends and family, stole the students’s attention by reading from her children’s book, ‘Flora & Fern: Wonder in the Woods’.

According to the school, her visit « added a magical touch, sharing messages of compassion and community during the holiday season ».

The duchess looked festive in a velvet green blazer, a colourful scarf tucked in, a black flared skirt that sat just above the knee, and a pair of colour-matching green trainers.

She styled her hair in her signature half updo.

The event, which was hosted by The Caring Family Foundation (TCFF) welcomes volunteers from Richard and Patricia Caring’s hospitality businesses, including Bill’s and The Birley Clubs to showcase « the power of collective kindness in fostering cherished memories for children and families alike ».

It was part of TCFF’s broader 2024 ‘Food From the Heart’ Campaign, which seeks to combat child poverty and food insecurity in the UK.

According to the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG), 900,000 school-age children in England living in poverty miss out on free school meals.

By combining efforts across the hospitality sector and leveraging its platform, TCFF is actively raising funds, aiming to expand its reach and make a greater impact in the fight against child hunger and food insecurity across the UK.

By the end of 2025, the Foundation has pledged to deliver a further 1 million meals through its ‘Food From the Heart’ Campaign, ensuring no child goes hungry

Matt Morden, Co-Head Teacher at Surrey Square Primary School said, “The children have been eagerly anticipating this magical day all week, and the joy it brings to them is truly priceless. As staff, we recognise the deep significance of this moment, knowing it’s an experience many of these children do not often have.

« We are grateful to have once again partnered with The Caring Family Foundation to create another unforgettable experience for our students, continuing this special event for another year. »
