Russia: Dramatic moment North Koreans wiped out in drone strike as Putin admits Kursk blow | World | News

A video posted to social media channels by Ukraine’s army shows the dramatic moment a North Korean armoured personnel carrier (APC) was obliterated in a lethal drone strike.

Vladimir Putin has amassed an army of around 60,000 soldiers in Kursk – some 11,000 of whom are believed to be North Koreans.

The Kremlin dictator is desperately trying to regain Russian territory seized by Ukraine early in August.

However, his army has encountered fierce resistance from opposition troops, who have reportedly launchd a new offensive in the border region.

The North Korean contingent has sustained massive casualties since their deployment to the frontlines in the western border region.

In the latest video from the battlefield, two North Korean APCs can be seen trying to move along a road running parallel to a river.

One of the vehicles is picked out by Ukrainian drone operators, before being hit with a precision strike.

A huge ball of flames engulfs the armoured vehicle, before it disappears under a thick cloud of billowing black smoke.

Commenting on the strike in a post to his X social media account, the pro-Ukrainian war blogger WarTranslated said: « A precise strike by Ukrainian forces hit an armoured personnel carrier used by North Koreans in the assault.

« The occupiers seemingly believed that the armour would protect them from drones. »

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service confirmed reports that Kim Jong un’s forces had been pulled from the frontlines in Kursk.

Their withdrawal was carried out around the middle of January, according to the spy agency.

Pyongyang’s soldiers have sustained massive casualties, with some experts estimating that the North Koreans have lost as many as 50% of their forces.

On Friday, the Russian President admitted that his army was facing a « very difficult » situation in Kursk, following reports that Ukraine had launched a new offensive.

Russia‘s Ministry of Defence said Kyiv had deployed two mechanised battalions, tanks and armoured vehicles about 10 kilometres (six miles) from the border to the south-east of the Ukrainian-controlled town of Sudzha.

Reports suggest the Ukrainians succeeded in breaking through Russian lines, and advancing up to five kilometres (three miles).
