Russia has celebrated the Iran war and brutally mocked a ‘flailing’ Donald Trump on state television. Pundits have openly mocked the US President’s handling of the Iran war, warning he may not politically « survive the midterms ».
During a heated broadcast on Russian media, presenter Roman Babayan questioned whether Washington’s military action had achieved anything. He said: « Trump declared his victory over Iran, meanwhile Iran is promising to avenge its martyrs… Do you understand at all who is winning the war? » Political analyst Vladimir Kornilov suggested Trump’s claims of success were premature. »If we are to believe Trump, he already almost won, » he said – before Babayan interjected: « »If’ is a key word. » Kornilov added: « Meanwhile we see oil prices going up, in America there is anxiety and Trump is being criticised more and more. »
Academic Oleg Barabanov also ridiculed what he described as contradictory messaging from Washington.
He said Trump was insisting that « not only is everything going to plan… ‘We practically won already’, ‘The Iranian regime is about to fall’. »
But he added the US President was simultaneously warning that « we haven’t even started yet ».
« With this rhetoric, we can say he is flailing, we can say he didn’t expect this, » Barabanov said.
The programme also speculated about behind-the-scenes diplomacy between Washington and Moscow.
Professor Kirill Koktysh claimed Trump would be forced to make concessions to Russia over soaring oil prices and geopolitical tensions.
He said: « Trump understood that high oil prices are working not only in his favour, but also against him… he will be forced to make concessions to Russia. »
Koktysh then delivered a stark political prediction.
« Trump may not survive the midterms, therefore we should get these concessions right now, » he said.
Babayan also claimed the conflict was a strategic disaster for Washington.
« It takes talent to sink in two swamps in one year – the Ukrainian one and now the Iranian one, » he said.
The remarks highlight how Russian media figures are seeking to portray the Iran conflict as a major geopolitical setback for the United States.
Babayan concluded: « It’s obvious that he made a mistake… he is truly flailing, he can’t comprehend what to do in this situation. »
