Country star Ronnie Bowman has tragically died following a motorcycle accident outside of Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, March 22. The hit songwriter, who was born in North Carolina, was 64 years old when he sadly passed away at Vanderbilt Hospital. Bluegrass Life announced the news of his death in a devastating statement posted on social media. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronnie Bowman, who went to be with the Lord today at 2:55 CST,” it said on Facebook. “One of the greatest singers and songwriters in Bluegrass and country music, and one of the kindest souls you could ever hope to know. Prayers for his family and friends. We’ll always love you, Ronnie.”

Fans and loved ones have been sharing their tributes to the award-winning musician on social media following the heartbreaking news. One person shared on Facebook: « We’re heartbroken. Prayers for all of his family and many friends. »

Another added: « Had the pleasure of meeting him once at a bluegrass festival I used to help with. Was overwhelmed with his kindness and his apparent love for the Lord. So sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers for his family and friends. »

Taking to Instagram, another person shared: « Words cannot express the immense sorrow that has hit our community and our family. I have a lot of mentors and a lot of friends I consider family, and Ronnie Bowman was one of them. Ronnie, we are gonna miss you, but I know I’ll see you again. Rest easy. »

A fourth said: « Prayers for his family. I had the pleasure of meeting him back in 80s when he played with LRB. I think he will always be remembered for singing « Mary Ann. » He sang it better than anyone I’ve ever heard. RIP RONNIE. »

Singer Rhona Vincent shared a picture of herself with Ronnie and wrote: « Our hearts are broken to hear of the passing of the legendary Ronnie Bowman. Our love and prayers go out to his family. He was one of the kindest people I’ve met. An incredible vocalist, prolific award-winning songwriter, but most of all just a beautiful person. He will be tremendously missed in not only the bluegrass community, but well beyond with all the lives he has touched. »

Ronnie rose to fame as a member of The Lonesome River Band which won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) Album of the Year honors in 1991.

Addressing the star’s funeral, Bluegrass said in a statement: « No funeral arrangements have been announced, as his family is still in shock. We will share further details as they are announced. We will also put together a more complete career overview in the coming days.

« This is a grave and near insurmountable loss to friends and family, and the wider bluegrass and country music community. Much of Nashville is weeping. »
