Ronaldo the film star? Vin Diesel makes Fast & Furious claim | Football | Sport

Vin Diesel has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been penned a role in the upcoming Fast film franchise instalment. The Hollywood actor posted a photograph of himself alongside the Portuguese football legend on Instagram this week, capturing both men beaming whilst giving thumbs up gestures.

Accompanying the image, Vin Diesel – whose real name is Mark Sinclair – wrote: « Everyone asked, would he be in the Fast mythology…I gotta tell you he is a real one. We wrote a role for him…@cristiano. » Social media erupted following the photograph’s release, with countless users flocking to the comments section to share their enthusiasm about seeing Ronaldo potentially transition from the football pitch to the cinema.

One user joked: « We got Cristiano in Fast x before GTA 6 TOO, this is wild, » while another added: « When legends meet expect greatness. » The forthcoming Fast series entry takes the form of Fast and Furious 11, anticipated to carry the title ‘Fast Forever.’

The film is also projected to serve as the concluding chapter of the saga, which originally debuted in 2001 featuring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and the late Paul Walker. The street racing franchise is scheduled to release its next chapter in 2026, despite recent postponements, and cinema enthusiasts might witness Ronaldo’s participation if Vin Diesel’s claim proves accurate.

It comes after Ronaldo’s earlier announcement this year regarding his venture into the cinematography realm. Back in April, the 40-year-old shared that he had established his own film production company in partnership with British filmmaker and director Matthew Vaughn.

An announcement on his X page read: « Cristiano Ronaldo loves movies; Matthew Vaughn loves sport – and they both love a good story. Both have been disruptive champions at their game and will now combine the world of sport and storytelling through the launch of UR MARV, an independent joint venture film studio embracing innovative technology, with a nod to tradition.

« Through UR MARV, Ronaldo and Vaughn have financed and produced two action films together and are about to start a third in the same series. They look forward to announcing the first release soon. »

It comes as Ronaldo appears to be gradually concluding a remarkable football career that has established him amongst the sport’s all-time greats, with memorable periods at Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr. Currently tied to the latter club until 2027, supporters anticipate that next summer’s World Cup across North America will mark his farewell appearance for Portugal’s national squad.

However, the striker’s involvement in the tournament was thrown into doubt last month following his direct dismissal for an elbow on Dara O’Shea during a qualifying match against Ireland. Despite violent conduct typically resulting in a three-match ban, Ronaldo has had his second and third match bans suspended for a year.

This means that after missing Portugal’s final qualifier against Armenia, he will be available for all of his nation’s group stage matches at next summer’s tournament, unless he repeats such behaviour. FIFA released a statement which read: « If Cristiano Ronaldo commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension set out in the disciplinary decision shall be deemed automatically revoked and the remaining two matches must be served immediately. »
