Queen Camilla poke fun at her age as she was joined by Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho for a special conversation on the importance poetry plays in the development of children. In a video shared by BookTrust, a patronage very close to Her Majesty’s heart, Camilla hosts Mr Coelho in the library at Clarence House, her official residence in London.
Asked if she enjoys reading poetry and what she thinks of reading it out loud, Camilla told Mr Coelho: « Oh, I think it’s wonderful. You know, there’s a 100 years back when I was at school, we had to learn things by heart.
« And then you think, ‘Oh goodness, I could never recite them now’, but little things you’ve learned as a child that you think have long gone and forgotten and they suddenly sort of pop up, suddenly these little verses come back to you again.
« And I love reading poetry, but if you read it out loud it takes on a different dimension.
« I love the sort of rhythm that goes with poetry, I love feeling you are being taken along by a poem, that you’re almost in it. »
