Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticised after their latest trip to Jordan. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex headed to the Middle East to spend two days in Jordan, highlighting the humanitarian efforts of the Jordanian authorities and a range of agencies supporting the health and wellbeing of Syrians and Palestinians who have sought sanctuary in Jordan over the decades.

Harry and Meghan, who quit as senior working royals in 2020 for personal and financial freedom, travelled to Jordan at the invitation of the WHO’s director-general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. But some royal watchers were not impressed with the couple’s latest pseudo-royal tour, with one person calling it a “useless exercise”.

Royal News Network, which regularly criticises the Sussexes on X, said in a post today: “I still don’t understand why any government or NGO facilitates the delusions of two unemployed adults who have nothing to offer, no money to give and no geopolitical power, beyond an Instagram post and some As ever spread.

“A useless exercise for all involved, but that is the life of Harry and Meghan.

« Also, is it a coincidence that they go to the Middle East after Prince William’s historic visit to Saudi Arabia? No.

“As ever, they’re always desperate to compete with the real royals and look increasingly pathetic every time.”

Other users seemed to agree, with some suggesting their titles should be removed.

Another user wrote: “They’re not part of the RF yet they use their titles and announce trips. This is getting ridiculous.

“They MUST lose their titles otherwise they look 1/2 in 1/2 out. Anything they do is perceived as representing the monarchy.”The king needs to remove their titles immediately

A third person said: “The king needs to remove their titles immediately.”

A fourth one opined: “The king of Jordan should say no to these 2. If the WHO wants to go fine but these 2 have no clout and should not be involved.

“They have nothing but negative press to give and Jordan does not need that now.”

A fifth user added, “What are they telling the WHO in order to get an invite? That their tiny charity will give these humanitarian issues visibility? What is honestly going on – KC needs to remove the titles imminently.”

During their two-day visit, the Sussexes will meet Jordanian leaders and senior health officials, engage with WHO teams, visit frontline health and mental health programmes and meet World Central Kitchen staff co-ordinating food relief for Gaza from Amman.

Jordan has received wave after wave of refugees, beginning with Palestinians more than 80 years ago, who now number around 2.5 million, and Syrians who fled conflict in their country, which was recently ruled by President Bashar al-Assad.

The latest wave of displaced people flowed into the country following the Israeli government’s Gaza war against Hamas, which followed Hamas atrocities against Israeli civilians during the October 7 attacks.
