Prince George’s ‘unusual questions’ to William after ‘becoming aware’ | Royal | News

Prince George quizzed his parents with « unusual questions » about the Royal Family after school, spurring Prince William and Princess Kate to ponder the best approach to explain his heritage.

Rebecca English, Royal Editor for the Daily Mail, claims the Prince and Princess of Wales have given careful thought to educating him on his destiny as a future king.

On the Palace Confidential podcast, host Jo Elvin questioned whether the young royals were fully aware of their identity, prompting Rebecca to recount a telling incident. She explained: « They do but I remember someone saying to me that George had come back – I think probably about five or six – coming back and had just started to ask some unusual questions of his parents when he got home from school. »

Rebecca elaborated on how George’s growing curiosity was handled sensitively, saying: « So he was starting to become more aware of who he was. Obviously maybe some of the other children had been saying things to him you know like ‘my mummy says’ or ‘my daddy says’. »

She went on to describe the deliberate way in which the Duke and Duchess are guiding him, saying: « They said ‘we know we have to tackle with him – but we want to do it in a way that is appropriate for him and doesn’t overwhelm him at all.’ I think obviously as he gets older he will learn more about you know, the Kings and Queens that happen to be his forbearers, but it has been quite slow and careful. »

Richard Eden, Diary Editor at the Mail, recalled an anecdote from Prince Harry‘s younger years. In his tell-all memoir, Harry laid bare the travails of his schooldays, notably recalling a history teacher who suggested he ought to be much more well-versed in Royal lineage given his heritage.

Eden further commented: « Harry had to admit that he was very ignorant actually – almost embarrassingly ignorant about the Kings and Queens of England. So I think eventually he (teacher) gave him a ruler that had them all marked but it was that sense of ‘you should know this because of who you are’. »
