If you purchased digital items within this now-defunct PlayStation game in the last three months, you could start to see refunds trickle back into your account.
Highguard players that purchased cosmetic items while the game was still live are reporting that their purchases are being refunded following the title’s closure, as reported by Kotaku.
According to the publication, players who purchased Highguard microtransactions were contacted by email on March 17 to say that any money they’d spent had been refunded.
As Highguard was a free-to-play title, only players who spent money in its store are eligible for refunds. Players don’t need to do anything – the money should be sent straight back to their account.
It’s worth checking your bank balance or PlayStation Store credit to see if you’re one of the lucky few.
Highguard launched at the end of January, but after a rough start that failed to convince players it was the next big shooter in gaming, the title shut down a mere five weeks after launch. Its servers closed on March 12, meaning it can no longer be played at all.
That means any cosmetic items purchased in the game, including its battle pass, are essentially useless. Wildlight Studios has since closed its doors after laying off ‘most’ of its staff.
It’s not currently clear if players on Steam and Xbox are set to see refunds too. It might be that Sony mandated the refunds itself, rather than a goodwill gesture from Wildlight Entertainment.
Highguard was funded by Tencent, but the Chinese investment company pulled its funding after the game’s poor launch. Wildlight had initially planned for a year of post-launch content, but that ended up getting scrapped along with the game’s entire existence.
