Penny Lancaster’s makeup artist reveals products for modern 70s look

Penny Lancaster recently did a cover shoot for Woman and Home magazine and fans were obsessed with her natual yet glowing makeup. Her makeup artist, Heather Marnie, shared a tip or two on re-creating the bronzy ‘goddess’ look, and that includes a Charlotte Tilbury foundation and a YSL tinted moisturiser – which is on sale in select shades.

From the snippets shared on social media, Penny radiates confidence and a divine aura, with her makeup complementing her blonde, wavy locks. Heather explained behind the scenes that she went for a ‘modern take on a 70s look’, with plenty of shimmer.

Heather continued: « It’s all about getting that glow with products that don’t have much glitter in it. It’s more of a sheen to make it look lit from within, rather than something sat on top of your skin. To do it at home, moisturiser is really important – let that sink in, that’s gonna give the glow straight away. And I think a minimal base, I use this Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Base to get a nice finish to the skin.

The Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation, £39, is long-wear, buildable foundation that delivers a glow with beautiful skin effect. It is packed with hyaluronic acid and rose complex, which both contribute to radiance and a smooth texture.

The wife of rock singer Rod Stewart then commented: « I love the natural glow look and the healthy fit with a little glam thrown in. What I particularly loved is the shimmer – the bronzy shimmer – sometimes I think it can end up looking glittery, but today, it was just the perfect level of healthy glow. »

In response to the Charlotte Tilbury foundation, she added: « Felt like it was fresh but it didn’t end up seeping in or getting that cakey feeling. It felt fresh all the time. »

Elsewhere, the Givenchy Prisme Libre Glow Serum Foundation is also another medium-coverage base makeup that gives a radiant, soft-focus finish. Currently reduced from £48 to £36 on LookFantastic, one shopper said it ‘goes on my face like a dream’.

Another tip to achieve Penny’s bronzed look is picking a tint with golden tones. Heather mentioned the importance of good skin prep, including moisturiser.

« Then not too much powder if you can get away with it. The only place you would put a tiny bit of powder, if you need it, maybe the forehead and down the nose, » she said. « I also use this YSL Highlighter, which is like a gold. The gold colour works really well with the bronze, to give that sort of LA bronzy vibe. »

The highlighter mentioned is the YSL NU Bare Look Skin Tint, available at Escentuals with 20% discount, a skincare-makeup hybrid that leaves skin a sheer glow. Shoppers can get it at £24 instead of £30.

A shopper shared her review of YSL’s tint and said: « So beautiful, light, feels weightless. Beautiful skin like finish but covering imperfections. » Someone else said: « I like this but there is too much fragrance so I probably won’t repurchase. »

But other than that, Irish beauty brand Sculpted by Aimee’s HydraTint also won praise from beauty lovers wanting hydrating, skin-perfecting coverage. It’s available on Amazon at £23.

Fans loved Penny’s look, with some thanking Heather for sharing the tips. One said: « Lovely video and I learned something today. »

Another commented: « Gorgeous Penny. She’s such a beauty inside and out. Beautiful makeup that truly enhances her loveliness. »
