Penhaligon’s gift sets bag shoppers 5 perfumes for £10 each

Penhaligon’s is a fragrance brand associated with luxury, and has the royal nod of approval, with four Royal Warrants under its belt and a scent crafted in partnership with King Charles. With fragrances starting from £145, the brand’s scents are far from budget-friendly, but now fans (or a lucky recipient) have the chance to try five miniatures for £50.

We’ve spotted the Ladies’ Fragrance Collection and the Gentlemen’s Fragrance Collection, both priced at £50, which means shoppers get each 5ml bottle for £10. Bear in mind that the brand’s 10ml size costs at least £37, with 100ml versions priced at up to £215.

The Ladies’ Fragrance Collection contains The Favourite, Elisabethan Rose, and Luna, as well as Empressa and Halfeti.

Halfeti is perhaps the most coveted out of the five scents, with loyal fans saying it « smells like royalty » and « evokes a sense of mystery and allure, making it perfect for special occasions or when you want to make a statement ». The fragrance has notes of citrus, rose, spices and oud, and being unisex, it’s also included in the men’s collection.

Another fan spoke of its longevity, saying: « It lasts for hours on my skin, gradually revealing different layers of its complex composition. The dry-down is warm and inviting, leaving a lingering trail of elegance. »

Elisabethan Rose is a floral scent inspired by the Tudor Rose, England’s national flower, which blends with nutty and woody notes over a creamy base of vetiver and violet. Fans online are calling it a « subtle, simple, feminine, classic, and timelessly elegant rose ».

Another review said: « This would suit a teenager right through to an 80-year-old, it’s timeless. »

Empressa opens with citrus notes, with a floral heart and a base of patchouli and precious woods. Its loyal fans are calling this scent « stunning » and « luxurious ». One review says Empressa is « warm but uplifting » and « the perfect transitional scent from summer into autumn, then party into the festive seasons ».

Luna is a lighter citrus scent, loved by those who prefer softer fragrances but still want something that packs a punch. It has top notes of lemon, bergamot and bitter orange, with a rose and jasmine middle and a musky base. « Seductive and soft, » a shopper wrote online. « It always reminds me of sipping ice-cold lychee martinis! ». Another fan called Luna « absolutely stunning, » adding that « it makes me feel so good and alive ».

The Favourite is a very feminine scent best suited for those who favour powdery, clean scents, with notes of violet, mimosa and iris, over a clean base of ambroxan and sandalwood. « The Favourite is the perfect sweet pink powder puff kissing a rosy Victorian cheek, » wrote a shopper, and another said this had « princess vibes ».

The Gentlemen’s Fragrance Collection is a mix of colognes and eau de toilettes, but it also includes one eau de parfum. Though these collections are gendered, many of Penhaligon’s scents are actually unisex. Halfeti is one of them, and it’s also included in this collection.

Another scent in the set is Quercus, which is named after the English oak. This cologne has notes of mandarin, lily of the valley and oakmosss, and it’s best suited for fans of fresher scents, as it’s heavy on the citrus, but this is exactly why shoppers love it.

One wrote: « So fresh, clean and invigorating, you cannot go wrong with it! I spray it on my skin and on my linen all year round. » Another said « it has a wonderfully crisp quality that feels both uplifting and timeless, making it versatile for daily wear. »

Next is Blenheim Bouquet, which, according to the brand, was first created for the 9th Duke of Marlborough. The eau de toilette has notes of lemon, black pepper, lavender and thyme, balancing freshness with a spicy kick from the pepper. One fan described it as « gentle but still very much a statement », adding: « I’ve found that it works equally well for a casual walk into town as it does an evening spent in Piccadilly. »

The set also includes a bottle of Endymion, a more complex cologne that steps away from the traditional citrusy notes, instead blending suede, coffee and geranium with sage and frankincense.

One reviewer called it a « modern classic », while another said it was « an incredible creation which moves from fresh and spicy to warm and creamy over time. »

Last but not least is Juniper Sling, Penhaligon’s homage to the roaring 20’s. The crisp, sharp scent blends notes of juniper berry, vetiver and black pepper for a classic yet playful take on the cologne. One fan said: « Juniper Sling is so unique and vibrant! The best way to describe it is like a refreshing gin tonic with the fizz. »

Also commenting on its versatility, they added: « A great daytime scent, the booziness makes the scent really uplifting, then out comes the soft leather and black pepper, making it spicy and warm! I love it! Just so different! »
